EdTech: Learning Through Digital and Immersive Experiences

A lesson can become an exploration. A workplace training course can become a simulation where people practise before facing a real situation. That is the potential of EdTech: digital technologies applied to education and training.
The sector is already substantial. According to the Proxima Observatory’s EdTech 2026 Report, the Italian EdTech ecosystem is estimated to have a turnover of around 2.7 billion euros and employ 11,000 people. Globally, the EdTech market reached $187 billion in turnover in 2025 and is estimated to reach $438 billion in 2033 (source: Grand View Research).

From Online Lessons to Active Learning
Digital learning makes it easier to access content and track progress. Artificial Intelligence (AI) can help suggest exercises suited to each learner’s level, provide additional explanations and support educators in preparing learning materials.
Augmented reality (AR) adds information and 3D models to the world around us. A student can examine a human organ up close, while a technician can view the parts of a machine during a procedure. Virtual reality (VR) creates an environment for practice, whether that means simulating a technical task, visiting a historical site or responding to a workplace safety scenario.

These experiences help learners move from listening to doing. Technology works best when it serves a clear learning goal and supports the work of teachers and trainers.
Why It Matters to Schools, Businesses and Organisations
For schools, an immersive experience can make a difficult topic easier to understand. For businesses, simulations let employees practise procedures and decisions in a controlled setting. Museums and other organisations can create interactive experiences that people can access remotely.
The need for new skills makes this shift even more relevant. In its Future of Jobs Report 2025, the World Economic Forum estimates that 59 out of every 100 workers will need training by 2030. This is a forecast of training needs, not a measure of the EdTech market.
For AR Market, the challenge is to continue designing digital and immersive experiences that make knowledge easier to explore, practise and remember. The starting point is always the same: understand what people need to learn, then choose the technology that helps them learn it.
